Hidden Quasiparticles and Incoherent Photoemission Spectra in Na2IrO3    [PDF]

We study two Heisenberg-Kitaev t-J-like models on a honeycomb lattice for the zigzag magnetic phase of Na2IrO3 and investigate hole motion by exact diagonalization and variational methods. The spectral functions are quite distinct from those of superconducting cuprates and are dominated by large incoherent spectral weight at high energy. Low energy quasiparticles are also found --- they are mostly hidden in experiment but determine an analog of pseudogap. We point out that the experimental spectra for Na2IrO3 have remarkable similarity to those found with frustrated ferromagnetic Heisenberg and antiferromagnetic Kitaev interactions in the strong coupling regime.
