We report the electronic structure of a prototypical valence fluctuation system, YbAl2, using three-dimensional angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The observed band dispersions and Fermi surfaces are well described in terms of band structure calculations based on local density approximation. Strong hybridization between the conduction and 4f bands was identified on the basis of the periodic Anderson model. Such findings suggest that the strong hybridization suppresses band renormalization and hence the electron correlation effect of the Yb 4f states does not work significantly. Even in this situation, the Kondo resonance peak can be defined and its dispersion is clearly observed, thus demonstrating the uniqueness of Yb-based compounds.
